Understanding the Procedure

Porcelain veneers are incredibly thin, durable shells that are bonded to the front surfaces of your teeth to cover minor imperfections and achieve a look of symmetry. Porcelain veneers are a fully customizable enhancement that can be completed in two appointments.

Your first appointment with Dr. Messer will be a comprehensive examination and consultation. He will assess your oral health and cosmetic dentistry needs. Guided by your aesthetic goals, Dr. Messer will determine whether porcelain veneers are the right choice for you, and create a personalized treatment plan.

During your next appointment, we will prepare the teeth you wish to enhance. A small amount of your tooth's enamel will be removed to accommodate the veneer. Dr. Messer will send an impression of your prepared teeth, along with color-matching information, to a trusted laboratory, where your veneers will be created.

In two to three weeks, you will return to our office to have your veneers placed. First, we will thoroughly clean and lightly buff the surface of your prepared. A special adhesive will be placed on the tooth's surface, and the veneer will be attached. A special curing light will help expedite the bonding process.

Caring for Your Porcelain Veneers

Maintaining excellent oral health will help you to get the most enjoyment from your porcelain veneers. Brushing twice a day and flossing will keep the teeth supporting your veneers healthy. It is highly recommended that you avoid using your veneer to chew on particularly hard objects such as ice cubes or pen caps, as they may cause your veneers to chip. Biannual appointments with Dr. Messer are important to maintain the appearance of your veneers, as well as your oral health.

The Benefits

If you have minor imperfections in your smile that are not serious enough to warrant orthodontics or dental crowns, but prominent enough to make you feel self-conscious, veneers are a fast and effective solution. Because they are custom-crafted to achieve a natural appearance, a single veneer can make an incredible difference in the overall look of your smile.

Whether used alone or combined with other treatments in a smile makeover, porcelain veneers can give you the stunning smile you have always wanted. The beauty of a smile easily translates to confidence in expression, and before you know it, you'll be laughing and smiling candidly, making a lasting impression on those around you.
